Fake Antivirus on BitTorrent

Bittorrent confirmed in a blog post that hackers broke into its site and replaced some of the files available for download with the fake antivirus Security Shield. The Security Shield malware is a scareware that causes misleading popup warnings of virus and malwares in the computer system. Computer users are then led to believe that they need to pay for the Security shield antivirus to remove detected viruses and malwares.

Bit torrent already asked for an apology from their users and assured that their servers are now back online and function normally after a few hours. Compromised users were advised to run a security scan in their computer. Users who downloaded software in between 4:20 a.m. and 6:10 a.m pacific time are likely the ones affected by the fake antivirus attack.
