Macbook Air Defects and Quality Issues

One of my friends has just told me he has bought a black macbook. He also told me that the Macbook Air is already available for sale in the apple store where he bought his blackbook. When I asked him why he opted for the black Macbook instead of the Macbook Air, he told me that since the Mac Air has just been released, there may be defects and quality issues with the Macbook Air that has not yet been noticed or has not yet been fixed in the first batch of Mac Air laptops.

It can be remembered that a few years back, a number of users of the Apple made iBook G4 has filed complaints because of the defective design of the laptop. The defect is also attested by the Danish Consumer Complaints Board which urged Apple to make a recall of its defective Ibook G4.

I have not actually read any post from Mac Air users who complain about Mac air defects and quality issues but it sure is a good move for my friend not to buy a Macbook Air yet. After all, the macbook air currently sells at $1800 and for a laptop unit with potential problems, that is a really big amount of money.

What to do when your IM shows and sendshttp://nhattruongquang.0catch.com link

I am already being branded as a virus carrier by one of my yahoo messenger buddies because of the viruses in my yahoo messenger account.The worst virus that I had was the funny ust scandal virus which seemed to have been “downloaded” by people who used our PC the night before I found my yahoo messenger infected with the virus.
When I was in Zamboanga and was using a public computer to chat with my hubby, my YM buddies sent me messages that my yahoo messenger account was again carrying a virus. Without me knowing it, I was sending the following messages to my IM buddies. (I found them when I opened my other YM account):
Tra lai em niem vui khi duoc gan ben em, tra lai em loi yeu thuong em dem, tra lai em niem tin thang nam qua ta dap xay. Gio day chi la nhung ky niem buon... http://nhattruongquang.0catch.com

E may, vao day coi co con nho nay ngon lam http://nhattruongquang.0catch.com

Vao day nghe bai nay di ban http://nhattruongquang.0catch.com
My messenger status is also automatically changed into this: "Trang Web nay coi cung hay, vao coi thu di http://nhattruongquang.0catch.com "

What is this?
I googled for information about this and realized that the http://nhattruongquang.0catch.com messages are actually what you call a spim (will make a separate post about this later). A spim is a spam that penetrates IM accounts instead of email accounts and generally contains some links. http://nhattruongquang.0catch.com, I have learned, is actually a web hosting site that is being marketed through spimming.

How to Avoid receiving the http://nhattruongquang.0catch.com messages
I was looking for information on how to remove http://nhattruongquang.0catch.com text and links but the best advice I got so far is on how to avoid receiving this http://nhattruongquang.0catch.com spim. The trick is to edit the messenger preferences and set your settings to 'Ignore anyone who is not on your Messenger list'. This way, people, including spimmers will not be able to send you messages if they are not included in your buddy list.

I also suggest to people not to purchase their web hosting from http://nhattruongquang.0catch.com. The site deserves a boycott after messing with our instant messaging accounts.

How to Remove the Blogger Navbar

This is the blogger navbar:

and there are several reasons why some bloggers (including me) would prefer to remove the navbar and prevent it from showing in blogger blogs. So here is the trick on how to remove the blogger navigation bar:

  1. Go to Edit Html (under templates)

  2. and insert this anywhere in the template:

  3. #navbar #Navbar1 iframe{
    display:none;
    visibility:none;
    }

Thanks to apnerve.blogspot for the hack.

    How to Avoid Getting a Yahoo Messenger Virus

    I was in Zamboanga last week and since I do not have a laptop, I go through the hassle of going to an internet cafe to open my email and chat with my hubby. While I was busy chatting, I noticed that a yahoo messenger virus infected my IM account. I know this because my yahoo messenger status automatically changes and it displays some incomprehensible foreign words. My online buddies were also telling me that I got another virus in my yahoo messenger (the first and worst being the funny UST scandal virus.

    I do not know how I got the virus since I did not click any link or file in my yahoo messenger at all. I think that most computers in (hardly maintained) computer shops are really vulnerable to viruses. Anyway, microsoft offers some tips on how to avoid getting an IM or yahoo messenger virus:

    1. Avoid clicking on links and accepting files in your IM. That is, if you do not know the sender or you think the person sending the file or showing the link is least likely going to do that in his sane mind. Verify with the sender if he is really sending a link or what shows up in his account is a yahoo messenger virus.

    2. Use updated IM software. Updated and newer IM software versions are updated to combat against security and virus threats. Now I know why I should not be lazy in updating my IM software.

    3. Use updated antispyware and antivirus software. Anti spyware and anti virus software that are not updated may not be able to identify and protect the computer from malicious spywares and virus that may attack your PC and yahoo messenger.

    Is it wise to spend PhP 6K for a make money online seminar?

    Pinoyblogero has blogged about his and other bloggers' opinions about the 6,000 peso make money online seminar. Here are my reasons why I too will not attend a seminar that charges that amount to teach people how to earn money online:

    I have free and better alternatives to paying 6000 to learn how to make money online. Attending bloggers fellowships like the Mindanao blogger summit is one of the best and guaranteed ways to learn how to make money online. I got a list of some online jobs during the October MBS1. I also met bloggers who gave me inputs on how I can monetize my websites. I do not only get inputs from people who really earn online, I also get to meet new friends.

    Why pay when I can google for ways to make money online? In fact, I have an online jobs blog where I have compiled a list of online jobs and ways on making money online that I have found in other sites and forums.

    The organizers of the seminar may have good intentions but PhP 6,000 for a make money online seminar tackling adsense, affiliate marketing and paid blog reviews is just too expensive. It is like buying a 6,000 peso book that I have the option to borrow from my friends.I believe that this particular seminar is targeted for those who are not yet familiar with the online economy but I hope that before people register to attend this seminar, they will realize that what will be presented in the seminar may be already available online. They just need the patience to find ways how they can make money online. They also need some logical thinking to understand that not everyone who embarks in earning online will be as financially successful as Abe Olandres and yeah, the self proclaimed dot com mogul. Of course, they also need to have some common sense to avoid getting ripped off by scammers that lurk in the world wide web.

    Pending Paypal Withdrawal Now Marked Completed

    Update: Already got the money :-)

    Our January 24 paypal withdrawal is finally marked completed. I hope it will not take the same length of time for the funds to be reflected in our debit card account. I also hope that everyone who have had pending paypal withdrawal transactions can already see the completed status in their withdrawal transaction.

    What will replace the internet?

    What will replace the internet? I mean how is the internet going to be replaced? I was reading yahoo's feature article about the internet blackout when I learned through one of the links about the Japanese plan to replace the internet. Japan's minister of communications Yoshihide Suga has even talked about making this internet replacement technology available by 2020.

    By then, I might no longer be chatting with my friends via IM but am I supposed to expect connecting with people the "Star War's way"? By the way if my son Kulay will be reading this post by 2020 (that is 12 years from now), this entry is blogged using an internet broadband connection with approximately 500 kbps speed.

    What to do to expedite the processing of pending paypal withdrawals

    Update February 13: The pending transaction is already marked completed. I hope the funds will be reflected in the debit card soon.

    Update February 18: Already got the money. Ubos na ang pera hehehehe...

    It has been weeks and the paypal withdrawals that were initiated in between the period January 24 to January 28 are still pending. Our succeeding withdrawal after the pending withdraw transaction has been successful but there seems to be no development in the pending withdraw transaction made on January 24. (Despite that paypal has already acknowledged the issue on February 5 and hoped to resolve the issue in 72 hours.).

    I am soliciting the opinions of fellow bloggers who have problems with their paypal withdrawals and those who would like to give valuable inputs regarding this issue.

    I invite the following bloggers to share their opinion on what can we do so paypal will make haste in doing something about the pending paypal withdrawals.

    These people, I believe, are similarly having problems with their paypal withdrawals. You can write a blog post or leave a comment here. Please leave your entry's link as comment so I can update this post to include links to your opinions.

    What to do to expedite the processing of pending paypal withdrawals

    1. Blog about the problem

    2. Start a Petition at care2.com pressuring paypal to start doing something.

    Successfully transferred paypal funds to bank account

    Our January 24 paypal withdrawal is still pending up to now. Nevertheless, hubby has successfully transferred his paypal funds to his banco de oro account. We actually withdrew the money this morning.

    There are several things I have noticed with this particular paypal to bank account transaction though:

    1. The withdrawal transaction takes some time to be marked completed. I actually thought our second withdrawal will have the same paypal pending withdrawal problems. Nevertheless, we were able to withdraw the money less than a week after we initiated the transaction.

    2. The peso-dollar exchange rate is not competitive. 1 U.S. Dollar in our transaction was converted to 39.5265 Peso. I do not have the data but I believe that the US dollar at that time was some cents more than 40 pesos.

    I was not able to check our remaining balance before the paypal funds arrived but I would like to request those who plan to make withdrawal via bank to check their balance because there seems to be a discrepancy between the amount that was transferred to our bank account and the amount that is reflected in the paypal dashboard.Hubby and I will try to verify too because we might have made some withdrawals that we have forgotten.
