I was really pissed off today because of this Funny UST scandal AVI virus that keeps pestering me everytime I send messages via yahoo messenger. I was really shocked when I saw the cursor automatically buzzing my YM buddies and sending messages that say "tropen dis ganda nakakatawa". Worse, my current status message even displayed this: "sino gusto funny ust scandal pm nio ko".
I tried to delete all funny ust scandal icons in my PC. I even tried to uninstall my yahoo messenger and reinstalled it again but the Funny UST Scandal AVI Virus keeps coming back. Hi, I think I have got rid off this virus. It caused these problems in my pc:
1.If I selected "show hidden files" option, the virus would automatically changed the option to "do not show hidden files and folders" ,so i could not see my hidden files and folders.
2.Again if i double clicked on any drive in the my computer,then another window would open.
I became tired formatting the C drive,but no solution cause it keeps its seeds in each drive of ur harddisk.Finally I applied this process:
1.First move the important files of C drive in other drives,cause u will need to format the C drive.You need to keep a backup of the software WinRar in any of your hard drives(without C), cause you will need it after installation.
2.Then install windows using a bootable CD.
3.When u have come to desktop after installation,be careful.Do not enter any drive.Rather than,from the start menu, go to Windows Explorer.
4.Be careful here again.Do not double click on any folder.Just use the left portion of the Windows Explorer to reach to the place where u have kept the backup of WinRar.Then double click on the setup icon of Winrar to install it.
5.After WinRar has been installed,run it from the start menu.
6.U will find that there is an arrow key in the main interface of WinRar using which you can go to any of your hard drives.Go to each of your hard drives(except C drive) and you see that there are some files(may be in exe or inf format) in each drives. Select these and SHIFT DELETE these evils.I found in my pc" autorun.inf" and" ek.com". Then delete the" Recyler" folder cause there is a autorun.exe file in this.
7.Repeat the process for each drives using WinRar and at last enter in C drive.If you find some files of the same name,those u have deleted from the other drives,then,SHIFT DELETE these.
I think u will not miss it.

Honestly, I find your process too complicated and time consuming. In my case, I just downloaded and ran the ust scandal avi virus remover. Gnawa ko is nag install ako ng program na nagaayos ng registry (advance windows optimizer to be certain. My feature dun na nag coclose ng process sa task manager, kc hinde mo pdeng iclose ung process sa task manager kc treated sya as part ng system. Kya lng mablis kylngan kc icoclose un agad ng virus. Mala2man mo kung ano ang dpat iclose dun dhil sa my icon, common sense n lng! Natanggal ko na yung mga pesky process sa task manager, kya ndi na nagcloclose ng kusa yung mga windows. Tpos sinearch ko sa registry yung mga name nla, gumamit ako ng registry name seacher ksama n yun sa ininstall ko. Then I deleted them! Ayun nwala na cla. Dinelete ko rin yung mga file nila sa windows folder yung iba dun hidden!

first follow above 4 steps and then try this trick
-open media player and from file option select open
-select type of file as "any file"
-and open your all drive one by one and delete autorun,funny,smss,xmss files from your all drive
then restart your system
and check virus on your computer by right clicking on all drive and if their is autoplay or autorun option then virus is their in your drive othervise virus is removed then use your full system
then follow 10 and 11 step.

Dude jitender kumar, you're suggestion was correct but i think that was too tedious. I think everybody wants to hear an easy way not a long one! You're right about that symptoms of having smss.exe that really sucks! You cant almost do anything on your pc! But you dont really need to install a fresh one! If you can kill the smss.exe then you are free to do anything on your pc! I installed a process manager included in advance windows optimizer. Smss.exe was persistent to close the installation but I made it. Then I ran the process manager and quickly closed the smss.exe. Now, which smss.exe, probably there will be two of them. The other smss is a process by your system and other one is running under the administrator so its obvious which one to close, its the admistrator process. After that, windows will stop closing by its own. Get a registry editor or finder, (advance windows optimizer already had) then search for the keyword smss.exe, funny ust scandal, killer.exe. Actually, you'll find them on the same registry so you wont have a problem deleting the wrong one. After that search for their file name on your hard drive(s) and delete them! That's it!
I think my suggestion was not that good but at least you save time from reinstalling a new one and saving your settings. If you find it wrong, post new comment here!

click processes to close the virus, select process and click yes to the question

note: close only file that have the same icon of Funny UST Scandal.avi.exe
CMD STEPS
1 now, click “start” then “run”
2 type “cmd” without quotes
3 type “cd\” without quotes
4 type “attrib -h -s smss.exe” without quotes

6 type “start c:” without quotes (a new window will open)
7 select smss.exe, autorun.inf, Funny UST Scandal.avi.exe and delete it

hey rhodilee..thanks to your post..i had that virus too in my pc and flash disk..i was able to delete it using avira antivir but im not reall sure if its reall was..then i tried what u post then when i click the "patayin ang tangahing virus" button it prompts that "NO VIRUS IS RUNNING"..so, with this, can i assure that my pc is of no harm with this virus??

So far, the virus remover worked in my PC. I didnt have any problem with the funny ust scandal virus since I used. I cannot guarantee but you might try the suggestions of others who left a comment here.
I see that you have already visited the Noob killer site. I think the noob killer can do something about your problem as suggested by Angelo here. I hope you can make an update if it works.
I Have a different problem with this virus.
1)when ever i try to install any kind of software it automatically disappears but the process will be running.
2)some times while playing games it automatically ask to uninstall the game.

Huh........y u guys r looking for antivirus for such a low risk virus?????You urself can clean it from ur computer...I took only 2 days to study abt that virus and to remove it from mine .....If my computer had a virus i wont go looking for antivirus.....i m happy to play on it......I ll tell u abt that.
The main thing of this virus is that ...
1) it edits the registry in system restore...So when ever u try to delete the virus, it restores....
2) when u try to open command prompt..It will go hidden...so u cant delete using that....
Now if u r going to safe mode with command prompt u can delete it....even if u do that....After restarting u ll find that virus still exist.. ..This is becoz the main file of the virus is controlling the regestry and doing the rest...so u need to find the main file....Its in prefetch folder....C:\windows\prefetch
the file name is xmss.exe..Delete it...if u cant delete it on normal mode..Just restart...
- press F8
- select safe mode with command prompt..
U ll go to safe mode
- select start then RUN
- type cmd
then u ll see command prompt
ther u need some commands...Note down
By default u ll be in c:\documents and settings.u need to come to c:> for that u need to type cd..(note that cd and two dots is for exiting from a folder).Then come to c:\ ther u need to go to prefetch folder.For that u type cd windows then type cd prefetch(note that "cd foldername" is for entering the folder)when u reach ther simply type dir there u find the list of files..If the virus files r in hidden mode or read only mode.. Type attrib -s -r -h -a( this will remove the read only property and can delete virus files)
for deleting type del "filename"(for ease of use type first letters of filename and press tab --eg: type del and type xms then type tab).delete all files that u see xmss.exe ---then go to windows folder. by typing cd..then type dir/a:h (for finding the hidden files) the as said before type attrib command and delete files...Then go to each drives in ur computer and delete files..Dont forget to delete every files...Got that???..U can use this methods for almost all low risk virus..Go guys...Fight against virus...Find ur own methods instead of using antivirus...Now i m collecting codes of virus..Means before deleting the virus just drag the virus into note pad..Then save it as text..It will not affect ur computer coz its disabled...if U guys got any virus drag it to ur notepad save it as text and sent to me...Lemme collect some virus lol...

I am very happy that I found Funny Scandal remover, it stopped the active virus files, but only removed the active exe files, I had to remove all Funny Scandal.exe files and hidden autorun files on all drives and partitions, but that's ok with me, as long as I got rid of that :-) Remember to empty recycle bin too.

I can't remember seeing "funny names" or things like that when I got the virus. You can just delete them anyway.

You will be able to remove that message after you have successfully eliminated the virus. Check the article and comments above to know how to remove the virus. If the message still appears and there seems to be no virus at all, just write a new status message and the old message might be replaced

rhodelle, i followed all your instruction.. actually, i found out a solution to this virus.. i tried the remover, noobs killer and task killer, none of them seems to work.. my friend told me to just download a copy of avast home edition to my computer... whaaalaa! it's like magic, all of the files of ust scandal were deleted... guys, i suggest not to follow the instruction of task killer, remover and noobs killer, it is possible that this kind of virus removal update the version of ust scandal virus.

try to download a stand alone anti-spyware. I tried noob killer and kaizer killer. they both working perfectly. and they can't only kill Funny UST Scandal Avi but also other spyware like jay.exe, bar311, etc...
Try to search using google.

Hi...i am new here...i tried the remover on top and tried the process manager and stuff but it did no work. I tried to boot to safemode it is not available already. I tried to boot from my Win XP CD and it is not booting there. It is showing an error about Gap fault or something and now i am getting the blue screen and doesnt even load to safe mode. I need help because i do not want to loose all my important file in my HDD.
