Antivirus Enhanced Protection Mode

Scammers are now making blatant use of legitimate and popular names in computer and internet security. Just recently, fake alerts that look like the one below are popping out:
  • Attention!
    Avast operates under enhanced protection mode.
    This is a temporary measure necessary for immediate response to the threat from a virus!

  • Computer users receive rogue Avast, Avira, Norton AntiVirus, and ESET Smart Security Enhanced Protection Mode alerts enticing them to pay for a particular program that may appear as a legitimate antivirus protection tool. The scammers are clearly banking on the fact that Avast, Avira, Norton AntiVirus, and ESET Smart Security have established names and taking advantage of these brands can obviously bring them money.

    Should you need to purchase a security software, it is advised that you head on directly to the real website of the software company. Do not click on links generated by popups and purchase your antivirus from sites provided by these malicious adverts.

    Since the Enhanced Protection Mode virus can cause your PC to keep flashing alerts and may redirect you to random websites, here's what you can do:

    Enhanced Protection Mode Removal: How to remove Enhanced Protection Mode popups

    * Reboot your computer in Safe mode with networking. Do this by restarting your PC and pressing the F8 key after hearing your computer beep on startup. Once the Windows Advanced Options menu appears, select Safe mode with networking and then press ENTER.

    • * Download Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware.* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.

      * At the end, be sure a check-mark is placed next to the following:

      Update Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware

      Launch Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware

      * Click Finish.

      * If an update is found, Malbytes anti malware will download and install the latest version.

      * Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.

      * When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.

      * Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. Reboot your computer if prompted.

      * When completed, a log will open in Notepad.
