“Metropolitain Police” Attention! Illegal activity was revealed alert!
The scareware metropolitan police is another ransomware that causes fear and panic among computer users. Fear not and do not panic, the alerts of the metropolitan police scareware are not true. This is just another scare tactic perpetrated by online scammers especially for those who reside in Great Britain.
Update:
As of September 2011, a new variation of this ransomware has come out. Just like the Metropolitan Police alert, the La policía ESPAÑOLA also locksdown infected computers with misleading notifications. Evidently, this La policía ESPAÑOLA pop up alerts are targeted to computer users in Spanish speaking locations. Those whose computer has been compromised by this are alerted that they have been found guilty of watching illegal pornographic videos and are sending out spam. By frightening computer users that their IP address and personal details will be sent over to the Spanish police authorities and their computer would be wiped clean unless they purchase a license "to restore access", this ransomware finds it easier to victimize paranoid and panicked computer users.
